In Bengaluru, BBMP officials state that the sewage flow into the Koramangala stormwater drain has reduced from 120 million litres per day to around 8 MLD after implementing the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. Despite this claim, local residents and businesses along the drain report that the foul smell persists and sewage-mixed water continues to flow. The K-100 project, funded with Rs 175 crore by the government, covers a 9.2-km stretch from KR Market to Bellandur Lake and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. To prevent sewage from entering the drain, BBMP has set up a 5 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant at Kumbaragundi and installed concrete rings and plants to naturally purify the water. The BWSSB is building a sewage treatment plant near Shantinagar, due for completion this year, to further prevent sewage from entering the drain. BBMP has also finished constructing retaining walls, ground-level bridges, service roads, and pipelines to manage rainwater properly. The project was initiated in 2021 with the goal of improving the Koramangala Rajakaluve area.It was initially scheduled to be completed by 2023, but it missed several deadlines thereafter.
